If the only tool you have is a hammer, it is tempting to treat everything as if it were a nail.

Agreed. Also worth considering, if you’ve never had a hammer, it is tempting treat nothing as if it were a nail.

Example, if you’ve never experienced not working in a permanent fire drill mode, you may not be able to imagine life without fire drill mode and anyone who say’s it’s possible probably seems a few cards short of a full deck.

Anyway, TIL that this hammer/nail statement has an official name, Law of the instrument and like so many interesting statements, we don’t know who said it first.
