Have you ever tried teaching kids to not talk with food in their mouths? Heck, maybe you’ve tried to teach yourself that.
What leads people to talk with food in their mouths? What overrides the fear of choking?
I have a theory that it’s because humans don’t like missing out on being part of the conversation.
So if you want someone to not talk with a mouth full of food, maybe instead of telling them to not talk with a full mouth, encourage smaller bites.
When bites are small, the chewers won’t have to wait as long to speak.
It’s probably easier to relax and finish when you know it won’t take a long time to finish.
If you’d like your teams to finish things before starting other things, encourage them to work in smaller increments.
