How to take your teams to da moon!

First of all, wishing you all a Happy New Year! Thank you for receiving and/or reading these. We’re going to cover great things in 2023.

Do you like it when others expect a lot of you? What if they do so in a supportive way?

We can make a matrix out of expectations and support and think of the results (I’m almost positive I didn’t invent this representation, but I can’t remember where I saw it first—If you know, I’d love to give credit):

A matrix with support on the x-axis and expectation on the y-axis. Each has a high and low value. High expectation with high support is called out as the most desirable.

Where do you fall in this matrix? If you lead teams, where does the culture of your team fit?

I grew up largely in the upper left quadrant. It left its mark. It’s why it took me two years from inception to actually writing these emails.

Today, I want to operate in the upper right, with teammates that mutually expect the world but walk hand in hand to get there. I think fulfillment and flourishing await there.

See you in 2023.
