Firefighters have a lot of reserve capacity

In most software development lives aren’t on the line. In most. There are definitely industries where it is a matter of life and death.

Your MVC application probably isn’t one of them.

Still, I think it’s useful to look at professions where lives are on the line and how they organize.

Take fire fighters, for instance. From the outside, it might look like they get paid to mostly sit around. Apparently a child thought this once, and we all get this wonderful meme as a result:

A meme of a child saying firefighters aren’t as busy as he thought.

Let’s assume the worst for the sake of argument and say that fire fighters really do sit and do nothing all day.

It would still be worth it.

Why?
