Are you a ChatGPT company?

If you’re a leader in a software development organization, you likely hire people.

Let me ask you a difficult question: can you tell the difference between your job postings and what ChatGPT produces? An example:

Job posting for a Directory of Software Engineering role job post generated by Chat GPT. It is very generic yet indistinguishable from most job postings that I’ve seen.

I can’t tell the difference between this posting and the ones I’ve read out in the wild.

“But Ethan, ChatGPT just consumes other job postings and regurgitates something in a similar style.”

Exactly. It means that every post it has consumed is roughly the same. How are you going to stand out? Would those candidates you’re looking for get any idea why your company is great and why they would want to work with you?

What about your technical blog or marketing copy? Could ChatGPT have written those?

What about your daily email lis… oh shoot…

(ftr, I actually do write all of these myself. My job is to make sure I’m going deeper than ChatGPT.)
